BSN Theatre Presents World Premiere of SAYRE: An Original Musical About Spirited Women in the Athens of the South

Nashville, TN – BSN Theatre proudly presents SAYRE: An Original Musical About Spirited Women in the Athens of the South, written by Bel Stuart and Emily Dodson, directed by Abby Waddoups, and produced by Robert Coles. This immersive and powerful production will take center stage at Playhouse 615 from February 28 – March 9, 2025.

A Story Rooted in Nashville’s Women’s History

SAYRE is a bold and deeply personal exploration of the struggles and triumphs of spirited women in Nashville, a city historically referred to as "The Athens of the South." Inspired by real-life experiences and conversations between the writers, the musical was born from a shared journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Originally workshopped in 2019, SAYRE was set for a 2020 debut to coincide with the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage. Now, five years later, its message is more urgent than ever.

"When it comes to women's rights, our work is never done. The overturning of Roe v. Wade, ongoing challenges to constitutional protections, and the discrimination faced by women in entertainment and everyday life make this production both timely and timeless." – Bel Stuart, Playwright & Music Director

An Immersive Theatrical Experience

More than just a musical, SAYRE transforms Playhouse 615 into a working coffeehouse and metaphysics shop, inviting audiences into an atmospheric and participatory experience. Audiences can enjoy barista-prepared coffee and tea, explore their metaphysical side, and immerse themselves in a world where music and storytelling intertwine.

"The cast and crew have worked tirelessly to bring this world to life. Our audiences will be thrilled throughout the production as we transform the theatre into a fully interactive space." – Abby Waddoups, Director

A Timely Premiere at the Start of Women's History Month

Launching at the beginning of Women's History Month—a designation recently removed from Google Calendars and federal recognition—SAYRE is more than a musical; it's a statement. It’s a call to action, a tribute to the women who came before us, and an anthem for those shaping the future.

"We are the embodiment of the women of the Athens of the South, reclaiming our sacred place in history. We see you. We hear you. We are you. There is no right or wrong way to be a woman." – Bel Stuart, Playwright & Music Director
